Head Distiller Adam Hannett has individually selected casks to showcase the classic, floral and elegant Bruichladdich house style. Made from 100% Scottish barley, trickle distilled, then matured for its entire life by the shores of Loch Indaal in premium American oak, it is a testament to the quality of our ingredients.

Showcasing the permanence of our commitment to barley provenance, this Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2013 is our eighth edition of unpeated, locally grown single malt. Fully traceable and high provenance with honeyed porridge and lemon meringue pie notes, it evokes a true sense of place.

Taking your time to explore this dram will not leave you disappointed, the wonderful, complexity and honesty of this whisky is a joy to behold, its purity and freshness, its delicate oak sweetness and expression of fruit and gentle floral tones make it a vintage to remember. In fact, it may well be unforgettable.

TASTING NOTES

COLOR

Apricot

NOSE

The freshness and purity of the spirit is striking. A kaleidoscope of vibrant aromas pour from the glass. First, citrus and honey notes emerge before stoned fruit, dried apricot, and the perfume of ripe peaches. Sweet notes of marzipan, yellow flowers and vanilla pods are followed by zephyrs of spice, cereal, and marine breeze. Over time the oak notes elevate as the vanilla, Crème-Brulee, caramel and wood spices come to the fore. Then gentle hints of cinnamon and ginger cake and syrup add to the anticipation of tasting.

PALATE

Oak cradles the soft fruit distillation beautifully. The delicate sweetness and luscious texture are like velvet on the palate. The balance of those sweet ripe stoned fruit flavours with the vanilla, caramel and brown sugar notes of the oak is perfect. This vintage of Islay barley is bottled at just the right moment to capture the essence of our island. Add a touch of water and watch as the natural oils react in the glass releasing wonderful floral notes of hawthorn and heather to add to the complexity and depth of this remarkable single malt.

FINISH

The finish is a testament to the quality of distillation. The subtle marine tang paired with the sweet citrus and honeyed oaked notes tells the story of our whisky and where it comes from. Natural whisky with no chill filtration means you will experience a long and gentle a finish, and in this case - unforgettable.

SUSTAINABILITY

We are working to reduce the impact of our operations and become more environmental in our actions, all with a heightened sensitivity to growing within our island home.

We must ensure our impact is positive, and that we continue to improve the quality of life for our planet and our people. Only with a clear vision, holistic approach and a solid foundation, will future generations be inspired to take over as custodians.

Since our renaissance in 2001, Islay has been at the very heart of our decision making. We have a strong sense of responsibility to our island and the people who live here. To us, this means spreading the economic benefit of the whisky industry into our community, whether that’s directly through our employment, or indirectly through our opportunities in farming, haulage, hospitality or construction.

Focusing on our people, our growing partners, volunteering and local projects, we will continue to develop our Islay-centricity. Indeed, our next major project will allow us to complete a proportion of annual production through an ‘all-Islay’ outfit.

Energy: As part of our program to reduce our carbon footprint, we've installed a circulatory heating system to recycle our hot wastewater and have switched to 100% renewable energy, sourced within the UK. Ultimately, our ambition is to decarbonise distillation by 2025.

Agriculture: We will continue our research into sustainable agriculture, exploring the models necessary to make our plans viable. We will be traceable and transparent and continue our progressive approach to growing and buying barley.
